Planted a first succession on Memorial day this year, along with several other seeds and had no germination. Decided to plant a second succession in Early July in a different spot int he garden and still not ansingle seed has germinated. Super disappointing!

In Zone 6, both a Memorial Day planting and an early July planting would generally provide sufficiently warm conditions for sunflower germination, so having no seedlings emerge from either planting is not the result we would normally expect. Several factors can affect direct-sown sunflower seeds, including planting too deeply, the seedbed drying out during germination, prolonged wet conditions causing seeds to rot, heavy rain washing or burying seeds, or birds, squirrels, mice, and other wildlife finding the seeds before they sprout. For best results, sunflowers should be planted in full sun in well-drained soil and kept consistently moist, but not saturated, while germinating. Since you tried two separate plantings in different locations without success, we reached out by email to learn more and offer a resolution, but unfortunately haven't heard back yet.
