I got one adequate harvest, then a sparce second flush and then every new growth was automatically a seed head. My prior knowledge of Amaranth was a never ending summer of harvest. Perhaps it is this variety that goes to seed quickly?? Who knows, however definitely disappointing. Some transplants grew well others remained stunted for the whole season.

While all amaranths eventually shift from producing leaves to producing seed, different varieties can do so at different rates. In warm climates like Zone 10, high temperatures and long days may also encourage plants to flower sooner, causing them to put more energy into seed production and less into new leaf growth. Regular harvesting of young leaves and removing developing flower stalks as early as possible can sometimes help extend the harvest, although some varieties naturally transition to flowering earlier than others. Differences in plant size can also result from transplant stress or variations in soil moisture and fertility. We are pleased we had the opportunity to provide a resolution.
