Customer photo review of Lisianthus Seeds - Rosanne Mix

I have been growing Lisianthus in my living room for 5 years. It has taken patience and love but well worth it. I have a lighting system on timers and set them for 16 hours a day. There is also an electric heater and a fan. The seeds usually germinate in 10 days. I have grown ,red, pink ,and purple, lilac and white with a purple edge in the past . The only seeds that didn't germinate were the lilac. This year I planted the Roseanne Mix ,Black ,Apricot and Champagne in February. All of them have buds now and some are blooming. I start them on a heat mat in small cells with a cover. When they sprout I water them with an eyedropper. At 4 real leaves I bottom water. Eden's seeds have always been great and the bulbs high quality. Than you!!

Sadly none germinated indoors in seed starting substrate.

Store owner replied: Hello Deb Elle. Thank you for your experience with this seed. We are sorry to hear that they did not germinate. They can be one of the more challenging flowers to start from seed, even for experienced gardeners. The seeds require light to germinate, consistent moisture, and carefully controlled temperatures, and the seedlings are known for their exceptionally slow growth during the early stages. We are glad we've had the opportunity to serve you successfully with many of our other products, and we appreciate your continued support! We were also pleased to connect with you directly and provide a resolution for this item. At Eden Brothers, we want every customer to be successful in their garden, and we stand behind our products when things don't go as planned. Thank you for your feedback and for giving us the opportunity to make things right!

Absolutely none of these seeds germinated. Every seed packet I purchased from Wal mart grew, but not these!

Thanks for your time in sharing your experience with us!

I am no expert. In my experience, Lisianthus is easy to grow. But it requires time and infinite patience. They germinate about as readily as most seeds. But once started, they are very slow to grow. They will to do nothing for months. My best experience is to start early in the pre-season. Scatter the seeds in a tray of potting soil that you can set aside and leave for months. Keep the soil mildly moist. When the seedlings become rosettes of four or more leaves, prick them out using a thin bladed knife. Go deep to get the full length of the filament root they produce. Loosen the soil. Pick them up by the ear. Untangle any of the seedlings that are seeded too close to one another. Transplant them to another pot. A small 1 or 2 inch pot is ideal for reasons of space. But any pot will do so long as you have space to leave it dormant for a long time. The seedlings transplant readily and can be transplanted with little or no soil on their roots. Use the knife to make an incision in the soil in the pot into which you are transplanting the seedling. Place the seedling in the incision. Then wait. It will be a long wait. Figure six months. But if you have the patience and a place to start them and keep them, they will eventually grow.

I am in zone 8 and just opened this seed packet to start my lisianthus today. While I am not sure how well they will germinate, I did want to note that the packet was just full of yellow dust and the seeds were almost impossible to distinguish. I did my best to scatter the "pelleted seeds" evenly, so I hope some will still germinate for me. I was disappointed in how the seeds are packaged though.
