A wonderful deer-resistant flower collection
If your garden in previous years has been overrun with deer, don’t despair! The flower garden of your dreams is well within your grasp. At Eden Brothers, we’re well acquainted with deer, and we can sympathize with rural and urban gardeners who battle deer pressure daily. For your sake (and ours) we’ve organized all of our deer-resistant flower bulbs and perennials into one place so you can easily find the next additions to your flower garden.
While no one can guarantee that the deer won’t eat your bulbs (these are opportunistic eaters, after all) these flower bulbs and perennials are least likely to be bothered by the four-legged pests.
Hardy deer-resistant bulbs to plant in fall
Just because deer love tulips doesn’t mean that you can’t have a garden full of exquisitely beautiful spring flowers. Daffodils are some of the more famous deer-resistant flower bulbs, but did you know that anemones are too? Alliums, anemones, daffodils, and papaver orientale are just a few of the hardy fall-planted flower bulbs that won’t break your heart when deer go foraging for a meal.
Colorful deer-resistant spring-planted bulbs
When the days get longer and you’re eager to get out in the garden, it’s the perfect time to plant deer-resistant spring bulbs. While you’re waiting on the weather to break so you can sow seeds, you could be planting ranunculus bulbs in every shade of the rainbow, or the exclusive Ranunculus & Freesia White Mix for blooms just as fragrant as they are colorful.
If you want to cultivate some exotic foliage in your garden, try planting caladium or calla lilies—deer don’t prefer these spring-planted bulbs, so you can enjoy their beauty without losing sleep at night! Canna lilies and crocosmia are two other species of gorgeous spring-planted bulbs that are perfect for containers or raised beds outside the deer fence.
The best deer-resistant perennials
Echinacea and liatris, are two native wildflowers to North America that are a welcome addition to any garden. These perennials are naturally deer-resistant and provide the perfect habitat and food source for pollinators and beneficial insects.
Siberian iris and phlox are two more cutting garden classics that are just as beautiful in the garden as they are in the vase–and you won’t ever have to worry about deer making a late-night snack out of them, either.
Deer-resistant bulbs and perennials are easy to grow
Flower bulbs and perennials roots are the easiest (and fastest) way to establish a deer-resistant flower garden. Depending on the species, you’ll plant flower bulbs and perennials in either the fall or spring for blooms the following season. Just bury the bulbs three times deep as the bulb is tall, cover with soil, and watch for your flowers to sprout!
At Eden Brothers, we do everything we can to ensure that your garden is a success. We source our bulbs and perennial rootstock from the highest-quality sources available, bringing them to you at an affordable price. We even take the guesswork out of planting by waiting to ship your bulbs to you until the appropriate planting time for your growing zone.
Are you ready for a worry-free flower garden? Place your bulb order today and tell the deer to move on.
