Why everyone needs an indoor herb garden
- Great taste comes from little effort
- Add fresh flavors to every meal
- Make cooking fun for the whole family
- Fresh herbs are bolder and brighter than store-bought
Homegrown herbs for the indoor garden
Even if you don’t have abundant growing space outside, you can still cultivate an indoor herb garden! Whether or not you have a full-size eating garden, it’s still nice to have your favorite culinary herbs within easy reach of the kitchen. Or plant them in two places!
What’s not to love about having fresh herbs close at hand? Let’s face it–storebought herbs are pricey and they tend to go bad quicker than you can be used. With an indoor herb garden, all of your favorite herbs are always on hand for when you’re ready to use them–and you can harvest exactly as much as you need with no waste!
The Culinary Herb Seed Collection has it all
At Eden Brothers we think that no indoor herb garden is complete without these ten culinary staples: sweet basil, Italian parsley, curled parsley, cilantro, arugula, dill, chives, garlic chives, chervil, and fennel. That’s why we’ve bundled these ten essential herbs into one Culinary Herb Seed Collection—we want to bring flavor and spice to your kitchen, while saving you 25% off the full price of purchasing these items individually. If you’re short on time or you don’t know where to start when browsing our extensive herb catalog, then this is the perfect mix for you.
Personalize your indoor garden to your tastes
You can also tailor your indoor herb garden to suit your household’s tastes and preferences. Choose from between eight different types of basil, or grow them all! Sweet Basil and Genovese Basil are definitely the most common, but we think that Thai Basil and Minette Compact Greek would be a fun indoor grow too.
If you’ve never grown chervil before, this is the year to try this aromatic herb in seasonings and on salads! Chives are another kitchen staple, particularly helpful for when you want the flavor of onion of without any of the tears. No Mexican dish is complete without cilantro, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a legitimate Italian recipe that doesn’t use oregano or thyme.
Herbs are easy to grow indoors
Herbs are some of the easiest plants to grow indoors, making them the perfect candidates for indoor gardens. Culinary herbs are harvested for their leaves and stems, rather than flower or fruit, so herbs can tolerate indirect light and partial shade. In fact, if your herbs start to flower, cut the plants back or pinch the flowers off to prevent the leaves from turning bitter.
Many herbs, including oregano and thyme, are drought-tolerant perennials, so you can grow them outside in the summer and bring them indoors for the winter. If you can, place your herbs in a southern or southwest-facing window that gets at least four hours of sunlight each day. Just be sure to water your herbs a little less frequently than you would if they were outdoors. Plant your indoor herbs in well-draining containers and allow them to dry out completely between waterings.
Regardless of how much land you have, as long as you have a sunny windowsill you can easily grow an indoor herb garden to spice up your weeknight dinners! Try our Culinary Herb Collection or choose your favorite herbs to personalize your herb garden to your needs—either way, order your herb seeds before they sell out!
